Dear Parents and Families: Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school. Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from October 24th – 28th in the Myrtle Crest Library. The fair will be open daily from 8:00 – 8:30 a.m. and 3:20 – 4:30 p.m. This year, say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy. If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school. Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/myrtlecrestschool The countdown to more Book joy is on! Inspirational Artwork and Sunshine!!! Today the students at Myrtle Crest Elementary took a few minutes out of their PE schedule to spread kindness and share encouraging words. The sidewalks in front of the school are decorated beautifully with sidewalk chalk. Come by before or after school to admire the artwork.

Staff Spotlight: Chealsea Marshall, 6th grade teacher at Myrtle Crest. What brought you to this job? I have always enjoyed teaching so it was an easy decision to get my Master’s Degree in teaching. It is also great to work where my children attend school. What are you looking forward to this school year? I am excited to teach 6th grade students and co-teach with Alex Miller. What is something you enjoy - that makes your life rewarding? Something that brought a smile to my face was the sound of students in the hallways after the school being so quiet and somber over the summer. How do you spend your time outside of work? I enjoy traveling with my family and exploring new places. One of the first waterfalls I took my family to when we moved back to Coos County. was Gold and Silver Falls. I am looking forward to rainy days so I can feel guiltless lounging with a good book and baking chocolate chip cookies with my daughters. Share some facts about yourself: A few facts about me are: I spent 8 years in the Army National Guard, and a year in Iraq; the last state I lived in was Arizona; I have my Master’s in Elementary Ed; and I am honored to teach at a school that I attended as a child.

Thank you Gold Beach for letting us join you and getting our younger kids on the field some more! Next Friday night we will not be playing a varsity game. Falls City has cancelled their season and our back-up plan with Dufur did not work out due to Dufur suffering some injuries last week and needing to heal up and focus on their last couple of league games.
