After spending November and the first part of December learning all they could about veterinary science, the FFA Veterinary Science Team went to Sutherlin on 12/17 for a competition. Students had to take a written knowledge test, a math test, and had to identify parasites, veterinary instruments, and animal breeds. The final aspect of the competition was a practicum where they were given a scenario that would take place in a veterinary hospital, and they had to properly complete that task. Examples of the tasks were as follows. Some students had to restrain an animal for a certain procedure, some had to administer medication via a specific route, and some had to properly draw up a medication for administration. Our students exceeded their expectations, and the Myrtle Point beginning team took first place. We had five students in the top 10. Maddi Ellingson was first Mataya Hebebrand was third Tyson Epperson was fourth Lilah Moore was seventh and Joe Wells was eighth.
