08/11/2020 Re-Entry Update

Good Afternoon Parents and Guardians,

I want to give you a status update on the re-opening of our Myrtle Point schools. Last night at their regularly scheduled meeting, the School Board approved our re-opening plans as presented. Essentially what that means for you and your children is that students in grades 4-12 will attend school in a Comprehensive Distance Learning model for at least the first 9-weeks. Students in grades K-3 have been approved to attend on site school provided that Coos County continues to meet the required metric for this exception. They also approved for pre-school students to attend on site. All on-site learning is subject to the Governor's Executive Order 20-29, the Ready Schools Safe Learners guidance from the Oregon Department of Education and guidance from the Early Learning Division. For those families that do not feel comfortable sending their students to school, a Comprehensive Distance Learning option will be provided. The school calendar was changed overall with a student start date of September 15th, as well as other changes that will be provided to you at registration. You can access the new calendar on our district website and our Facebook page as well. Next week the building principals will be sending out detailed information about the school year and what you can expect including registration dates and times. Please watch for this information. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your child's respective building principal or myself; we are here to help.

Respectfully,

Nanette Hagen-Superintendent
